About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a flop, but they rebound with their fourth release Isolation with two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name around the globe.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It's a change from the ballads of previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
